Always...Pasty Cline

Born Virginia Patterson Hensley, Patsy Cline made her first national television appearance on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts. It was during this performance that Louise Seger first heard Cline. Captivated by her music, Seger became an instant fan and reached out to her local disc jockey to request more of Cline's songs. This initial encounter sparked a lifelong friendship between the two women. Based on a true story, creator and original director Ted Swindley, Always Patsy Cline is now playing at Drury Lane Theatre. Under the direction of Scott Weinstein, DLT production is engaging and witty and does an excellent job showcasing Segar's friendship with Cline.

Narrated by Bri Sudia as Louise Segar, the play recounts how Segar first heard Cline sing. Seger became a regular at Hal Harris's KIKK local Radio in Houston, as she was known for her daily requests for Patsy Cline's songs. When she learned that Cline would be performing in town at the Esquire Ballroom in Houston, she invited her boyfriend and boss to accompany her to the Honky Tonk venue, arriving early to get the best seats. Cline also came ahead of time, and when the two women finally met, a natural bond formed between them that led to their destined friendship. From that moment until Cline's tragic death, their closeness blossomed through conversations and letters. Each letter Seger received from Cline was signed with heartfelt "Love, Always ... Patsy Cline."

Aja Alcazar and Bri Sudia, portraying the captivating characters of Cline and Segar, delivered two remarkable performances. Their on-stage chemistry combined with a charming narrative offers a fascinating glimpse into the profound bond that developed between Cline and Segar. Alcazar's beautiful voice, channeling Cline and Sudia's vibrant and witty presence, grips the audience's attention, making the experience both enchanting and unforgettable. In a captivating two-act play that spreads over two hours, including a 20-minute intermission, Alcazar mesmerizes the audience by singing several beloved classic songs made famous by Patsy Cline, including the heartfelt "Back In My Baby's Arms, Walkin' After Midnight; I Fall To Pieces," and the iconic "Crazy." Sudia delivers an electrifying performance that captivates audiences, holding them spellbound with every word she utters. Her innate charisma on stage is so compelling that it's (Always... Patsy Cline) worthy of the ticket price.

Sadly, on March 5, 1963, Cline was killed in a plane crash along with country musicians Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins and manager Randy Hughes during a flight from Kansas City, Missouri, back to Nashville. She was only 30 years old.
